HALDWANI, INDIA – Administrators, military welfare officers, and veterans gathered at the Shaheed Smarak Park in Nainital Road on Monday to commemorate Vijay Diwas, the anniversary of India’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The ceremony honored the sacrifices of soldiers who died in the conflict that liberated East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh).

The event, which began with a joint inauguration by Lieutenant General (Retd.) Indrajit Singh, City Magistrate A.P. Vajpayee, SDM Paritosha Verma, and DDO Gopal Giri Goswami, included the presentation of shawls to widows of fallen soldiers and veteran participants.

City Magistrate Vajpayee emphasized the day’s significance in highlighting the bravery and honor of the Indian Army, and reiterated the state’s gratitude for the sacrifices made by soldiers to secure the nation’s borders. Several widows, including Saraswati Devi, Nandi Devi, and Kalawati Devi, and veterans like Khinanand, Puran Chandra Joshi, and Khyaliram Joshi, received special recognition.

Numerous military officials, including station commander Colonel Prithviraj Singh and several retired colonels and majors, attended the commemoration. The District Soldier Welfare Officer, Colonel (Retd.) Ramesh Singh, was also present along with other local dignitaries.
