Mon Dec 16 15:06:15 UTC 2024: ## Trinamool Congress MP dismisses Congress EVM concerns, fueling INDIA bloc tensions

**New Delhi, December 17, 2024** – Tensions within the INDIA opposition bloc are rising after Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee dismissed Congress concerns about Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) manipulation. Banerjee’s statement follows similar remarks from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, further isolating the Congress party.

Following recent state election losses, the Congress had voiced strong concerns about EVM integrity, even passing a resolution declaring the electoral process compromised and announcing a nationwide movement. Banerjee, however, urged the Congress to present concrete evidence to the Election Commission instead of making general allegations. He challenged the Congress to follow through on their claims with substantial action beyond mere statements.

Abdullah echoed Banerjee’s sentiment, criticizing the Congress for their inconsistent stance on EVMs, suggesting their concerns are only raised after electoral defeats.

Banerjee’s comments also come amidst growing calls for Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee to lead the INDIA bloc, with accusations that the Congress is undermining regional parties. Banerjee highlighted the Trinamool Congress’s success in defeating both the BJP and Congress, emphasizing the importance of not marginalizing regional players.
