Mon Dec 16 14:07:17 UTC 2024: ## UK Bans Chinese Businessman with Royal Links Over Spy Fears

**London, UK** – A UK tribunal has upheld a government ban on a 50-year-old Chinese businessman, referred to only as “H6,” citing national security concerns. The businessman, who allegedly cultivated close ties with Prince Andrew, including visits to royal residences, was deemed a threat due to his alleged links to China’s United Front Work Department, a CCP arm focused on foreign intelligence.

H6, a former Chinese civil servant with a master’s degree from the University of York and a UK-based consulting firm, was first stopped in November 2021, with devices seized and data retained. He was subsequently banned from entering the UK in March 2023. His appeal was rejected Thursday.

The tribunal found H6 was capable of leveraging relationships between senior Chinese officials and prominent UK figures for political interference. A letter from a senior advisor to Prince Andrew, recovered from H6’s devices, described him as being “at the very top” of an influential circle connected to the Duke. Prince Andrew’s office has stated that he has ceased all contact with H6, claiming their meetings were through official channels and did not involve sensitive matters.

However, concerns remain amongst lawmakers about potential influence already exerted on the Duke and other officials. Calls are growing for H6 to be publicly identified, and for a full investigation into Prince Andrew’s dealings. The Chinese embassy in the UK denies the allegations, attributing them to individuals fabricating anti-China narratives.

This case follows recent charges against two men accused of spying for China in the UK. The ongoing controversy highlights broader concerns regarding Chinese influence operations within the UK, prompting debates about stronger countermeasures, including a delayed foreign influence registration scheme. While the UK government acknowledges the need for economic cooperation with China, it emphasizes its commitment to national security. The balance between these competing priorities remains a key focus for ongoing political debate.
