Mon Dec 16 08:30:00 UTC 2024: **Telangana Assembly Session Extended, but BRS and MIM Walk Out**

HYDERABAD, December 16, 2024 – The Telangana Assembly session will continue for another five days, concluding on December 21st, following a decision by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). However, the meeting was marked by a walkout by the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), who expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of clarity regarding the session’s agenda and duration.

The BRS members protested the limited number of days allocated for the session, stating they had requested a 15-day session. Harish Rao, a former minister, voiced his frustration, claiming the BAC meeting provided only “advisory” input instead of a concrete plan. He further criticized the restrictions on members wearing T-shirts, drawing a comparison to Rahul Gandhi’s attire in Parliament.

Minister Shridhar Babu countered the BRS and MIM’s actions, accusing them of disrespecting the Speaker and highlighting the historical practice of inclusive discussions within the BAC. He asserted that the duration of the Assembly session is ultimately the Speaker’s prerogative. The walkout, he said, was unwarranted.

The disagreement also included heated debate over the dress code, with BRS members questioning the ban on T-shirts. The conflicting accounts of the BAC meeting highlight the ongoing tensions within the Telangana Assembly.
