Sun Dec 15 04:18:49 UTC 2024: ## Veteran Congress Leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan Passes Away
**Chennai, [Date]:** E.V.K.S. Elangovan, a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and former Union Minister, passed away yesterday morning at the age of 75. Elangovan, the grandson of Periyar’s elder brother, had a long and distinguished political career, serving as MLA, MP, and Union Minister of State. He recently won the Erode East by-election in 2023 following the death of his son, E.V.K.S. Elangovan.
Elangovan was admitted to a private hospital on November 11th due to a fever. Subsequent tests revealed a lung-related ailment, and he had been receiving treatment, including ventilator support, until his passing.
His body was kept at his residence in Manappakkam, Chennai, where numerous dignitaries paid their respects. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and leaders from various political parties, including MDMK’s Vaiko, BJP’s Annamalai and Tamilisai Soundararajan, AIADMK’s Jayakumar and Sengottaiyan, CPI(M)’s K. Balachandran, Naam Tamilar Katchi’s Seeman, and Congress leader Peter Alphonse, offered condolences.
The Congress party flag flew at half-mast at the Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Chennai. The final rites are scheduled for this evening at a crematorium in Manappakkam, following a funeral procession.
