Fri Dec 13 20:56:22 UTC 2024: ## Telugu Superstar Allu Arjun Granted Interim Bail in Pushpa 2 Stampede Case

**Hyderabad, India** – Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has been granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court in connection with a stampede that occurred during a premiere of his film “Pushpa 2.” The incident, which resulted in the death of a woman and serious injuries to her four-year-old child, led to Arjun’s arrest on Friday.

Arjun was initially remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by a lower court after being charged under sections 105 and 108 of the Indian Penal Code, relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and abetment, respectively. The charges stem from allegations of inadequate crowd management at Sandhya Theater, where the stampede took place. A complaint was filed alleging insufficient security and the inability of private security guards to control the surging crowd, exacerbated by Arjun’s presence.

The prosecution argued that Arjun’s presence attracted a large crowd, exceeding the theater’s capacity, and that police had warned the theater management about potential public order issues related to the actor’s attendance. They claimed Arjun attended the premiere without proper permission.

However, Arjun’s legal team argued that his presence at the premiere was unrelated to the stampede, which occurred on the ground floor while he was on the first floor. They contended that both the police and the theater management were aware of his presence and failed to provide adequate security. They drew parallels to a similar case involving Shah Rukh Khan, who was also accused of causing a stampede during a film promotion. The defense maintained that the case against Arjun was sensationalized and that he had fulfilled all necessary formalities before attending the premiere.

The High Court, after hearing arguments from both sides, granted Arjun interim bail for four weeks on a personal bond of ₹50,000, with conditions mandating his full cooperation with the investigation. The court questioned whether Arjun’s status as an actor alone should make him responsible for the incident and noted that the charges didn’t seem prima facie correct. While expressing condolences to the deceased woman’s family, the court emphasized Arjun’s right to life and liberty. The court also clarified that the hearing wasn’t given special priority.

The incident highlights concerns about crowd control and safety measures during high-profile events. The investigation into the stampede and the roles of the theater management, police, and the actor remain ongoing.
