Fri Dec 13 06:43:38 UTC 2024: ## West Indies Pacer Blades Sets Unwanted ODI Debut Record
**Basseterre, St. Kitts** – West Indies pacer Jediah Blades endured a disastrous One Day International (ODI) debut on Thursday, setting a new record for the worst economy rate on debut. Playing against Bangladesh in a series already won by the West Indies, Blades conceded a staggering 73 runs in just six overs, an economy rate of 12.16. This eclipsed the previous record held by Peter Connell of Ireland.
Despite Bangladesh posting a challenging 321-5, thanks to fifties from Mahmudullah (84*) and Jaker Ali (62*), and a crucial 136-run partnership between Soumya Sarkar (73) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77), Blades’ performance overshadowed the match. He was particularly expensive in the powerplay and during a late onslaught from Mahmudullah and Ali.
Blades’ figures of 0-73 also place him amongst the top 25 highest run concedes on ODI debut. His final over, which cost 16 runs, even surpassed the previous women’s ODI record for worst economy rate.
The West Indies, having already clinched the series, opted to give Blades and wicketkeeper Amir Jangoo their ODI debuts. While the team got off to a strong start with Alzarri Joseph taking two early wickets, Blades’ performance proved to be a significant low point.
