**Hyderabad, Telangana, December 5, 2024** – A tragic stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, during the premiere of the highly anticipated Telugu film “Pushpa-2,” resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and serious injuries to her nine-year-old son. The incident occurred late Wednesday night during the 9:30 pm show.
The stampede was triggered by the unexpected arrival of the film’s star, Allu Arjun, and music director Devi Sri Prasad at the theater. The lack of prior notice prevented adequate security measures from being put in place. A large crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the celebrities as they were leaving, overwhelming the exits and causing the crush.
According to Chikkadpally ACP L. Ramesh Kumar, the theatre was overcrowded, leading to suffocation. The woman died from asphyxiation, and the lack of immediate CPR contributed to the fatality. The injured boy is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Police are investigating the incident and will file a case against the theatre management for exceeding capacity limits and inadequate crowd control. The road outside the theatre was littered with confetti and discarded footwear in the aftermath. A significant police presence has been deployed at theatres across the area to prevent further incidents.
