Thu Dec 12 16:47:04 UTC 2024: **Bengaluru to Launch New E-Khata System to Digitize Property Records**

**Bengaluru, India (December 12, 2024)** – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to launch a new e-khata system within days to digitize property records in the city, according to Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil. This initiative aims to bring transparency and efficiency to property tax collection and ownership verification.

The new system will address a current loophole that allows property owners with existing manual khatas to obtain duplicate e-khatas. This issue is being rectified to prevent fraudulent transactions. The rollout is expected to bring approximately 500,000 more properties under the tax net, including some properties currently without khatas but with proof of ownership. A parallel system will also be introduced for individuals lacking khatas or who have not paid property tax but possess ownership documentation, allowing them to obtain a draft e-khata and property ID.

A new module will also be released for builders of vertical developments (flats) to obtain e-khatas, separate from the existing 2.2 million properties already processed. This is expected to streamline the process for new constructions.

Mr. Moudgil highlighted that the e-khata system aims for faceless and contactless transactions, giving citizens complete control over their property records. The system digitizes the previously manual 2.2 million property records, providing a standardized, searchable database with unique property IDs. While initially available primarily in the local language, English versions of the application and e-khata system are expected within 10 days.
