Fri Dec 13 02:27:13 UTC 2024: ## Ivy League Grad Charged with Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO; Motive Remains Unclear

**New York, NY** – Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, has been arrested and charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, apprehended after a five-day manhunt in Pennsylvania, was denied bail at an extradition hearing on Wednesday.

While a manifesto recovered from Mangione suggests a motive rooted in his criticism of the healthcare industry’s prioritization of profit over patient well-being, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny stated that there is no indication Mangione was ever a UnitedHealthcare client. Instead, Kenny suggested the target may have been chosen due to the company’s size and influence as the largest healthcare organization in the US. Mangione was aware of the company’s annual investor conference, held at a Manhattan hotel on December 4th, the day of the murder.

Further evidence linking Mangione to the crime includes a 3D-printed gun recovered from his possession, matching shell casings found at the scene. These 9mm casings bore the words “delay, deny, and depose,” a phrase from a book critical of the insurance industry. Mangione’s writings also reportedly detailed his desire to use a firearm against a major corporation’s CEO.

Mangione is currently in custody facing multiple charges, including murder. The investigation continues.
