**ELURU, Andhra Pradesh, December 13, 2024** – The Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered an investigation into the death of a newborn infant following its abandonment by a teenage mother. The incident occurred several days ago when a second-year intermediate student, residing at a missionary hostel in Eluru, gave birth in a toilet and subsequently allegedly threw the baby from the hostel terrace.

Following a December 9th report in The Hindu detailing the event, the High Court’s Juvenile Justice Committee (JJC) directed the Eluru District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to submit a comprehensive report by December 16th. The report is to include details surrounding the incident, the circumstances leading up to the birth, and the actions taken following the discovery of the infant’s body.

The Eluru District Collector has been tasked with compiling this report. Police, child protection officers, and local authorities responded to the incident after the infant’s body was found by neighbours. An investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the case.
