Hyderabad, [Date] – Telugu film star Allu Arjun has been granted interim bail by the Hyderabad High Court in connection with a stampede incident that occurred outside the Sandhya Theater during a benefit show for his film *Pushpa 2*. Arjun was arrested following the incident, which resulted in the death of one woman.
The actor had filed a quashing petition in the High Court, seeking to have the case filed against him by the Chikkadpally police dismissed. During a lengthy hearing, Arjun’s lawyers argued that the charges against him were unwarranted, claiming he had no knowledge of the stampede and that the sections of law applied were incorrect. They contended that the sections related to negligent acts causing death (BNC sections) only applied to intentional acts, and that Arjun’s presence at the theater did not constitute such an act. They also highlighted that Sandhya Theater management had informed the police about the premiere show two days in advance. The police, however, countered by stating Arjun arrived with a rally-like procession.
The prosecution opposed the interim bail, arguing that the investigation was ongoing. However, the High Court, citing a previous Bombay High Court ruling in the Arnab Goswami case, granted Arjun four weeks of interim bail on his own recognizance. The court suggested that Arjun should approach the Nampally court for regular bail.
The High Court’s decision comes after a day of intense legal arguments. Arjun’s legal team emphasized that he was seated on the first floor of the theater while the deceased woman was on the ground floor, therefore minimizing his responsibility for the incident.
Arjun’s arrest and subsequent bail application have generated significant public interest and sparked debate on the application of law in such situations. The investigation into the stampede continues.
