Tue Dec 10 11:25:28 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leader to Lobby for Halt to Controversial Tamil Nadu Mining Project

**Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu –** Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K. Annamalai announced today that he will meet with Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on December 12th in New Delhi to discuss the contentious tungsten mining project in Madurai district. The project has sparked widespread protests from farmers in the region.

Annamalai expressed confidence that the meeting will yield a positive outcome, stating that the central government has consistently addressed farmers’ concerns. He accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of staging a political “drama” over the issue, referencing Stalin’s statement that he would resign if the project proceeded. Annamalai countered this by criticizing the DMK’s operation of TASMAC liquor outlets, alleging they harm the state’s population and specifically impact women.

He further criticized the DMK government for allegedly hindering law enforcement, leading to a rise in crime and drug use. Annamalai also questioned the state government’s vocational training schemes, suggesting they promote caste-based “hereditary education,” in contrast to the central government’s inclusive Vishwakarma Yojana. The BJP leader met with protesting farmers on December 1st, assuring them of the party’s commitment to their concerns.
