**Mumbai, India –** A BEST bus ran amok in Kurla, Mumbai on Monday night, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to at least 43 others. The incident occurred around 9:45 pm when the bus, route 332, traveling from Kurla Station to Andheri, veered off course, striking pedestrians and vehicles before crashing into a building.

The driver, Sanjay More, who was appointed to his position just last month, has been arrested and is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter. Police are investigating whether mechanical failure or driver error caused the accident; a forensic team examined the scene and the bus is undergoing a mechanical inspection. A blood alcohol test was conducted on the driver.

Among the deceased are Kannis Fatima Ansari, Shivam Kashyap, Afreen Abdul Salim Shah, and Anam Shaikh. The injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals, including Bhabha Hospital.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the victims and assured that the BEST and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will cover medical expenses for the injured. CCTV footage reportedly shows the bus speeding before the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
