Tue Dec 10 08:13:16 UTC 2024: ## Sri Lankan President to Visit India for First Overseas Trip
**New Delhi, December 10, 2024** – Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make his first official overseas visit to India from December 15th to 17th, it was announced today. The two-day trip will include meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.
The visit follows an invitation extended by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who was the first foreign dignitary to visit Sri Lanka after President Dissanayake’s election in September. Mr. Dissanayake’s trip was delayed pending the completion of Sri Lanka’s parliamentary elections in November, which saw his National People’s Power (NPP) party achieve a historic victory, securing an absolute majority in parliament.
President Dissanayake will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha Fernando. The visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka.
