Tue Dec 10 11:37:52 UTC 2024: ## 16-Fold Increase in Urban Investment Since 2014: Khattar

**New Delhi, December 10, 2024** – Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced a significant surge in urban sector investments since 2014, highlighting the government’s commitment to achieving the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision by 2047. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Khattar revealed a sixteen-fold increase in investment, from approximately ₹1,78,053 crore between 2004 and 2014 to ₹28,52,527 crore since 2014.

He attributed this growth to accelerated implementation of urban development schemes. Comparing the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) – which sanctioned projects worth ₹66,837 crore between 2004 and 2014 – to the current Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), which has sanctioned ₹2.73 lakh crore since 2014, Mr. Khattar underscored the government’s increased focus on urban development.

Further highlighting achievements, the Minister discussed the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY 2.0), emphasizing the introduction of a rental housing vertical for migrant populations and provisional sanctions for 7% of the planned one crore urban houses. He also stated that 88.32 lakh houses have been completed under PMAY 2.0. A revamped National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) is also in the pipeline.

Mr. Khattar also provided updates on other initiatives, including the disbursement of ₹13,422 crore in loans under the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme and the release of over ₹1,123 crore since June 9, 2024, under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He concluded by mentioning the successful remediation of two major dumpsites in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, addressing approximately 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste.
