Tue Dec 10 01:30:00 UTC 2024: ## JD(S) Leader Meets Amit Shah, Discusses Local Body Polls Amidst By-Election Loss

**Bengaluru, December 10, 2024** – Nikhil Kumaraswamy, president of the Janata Dal (Secular)’s (JD(S)) state youth wing, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday to discuss upcoming local body elections and the recent Channapatna by-election.

Following the meeting, Kumaraswamy held a press conference stating that he briefed Shah on the by-election results and received guidance on strengthening the NDA alliance at the grassroots level. He attributed his loss in the by-election, in part, to the government’s last-minute disbursement of Gruha Lakshmi scheme funds, characterizing it as a misuse of power.

Kumaraswamy also addressed criticism from Congress leaders, stating that he felt their recent rally against the H.D. Deve Gowda family was an unnecessary use of taxpayer money and did not warrant a response. He further explained the cancellation of planned birthday celebrations for H.D. Kumaraswamy, citing scheduling conflicts and the ongoing Kannada Sahitya Sammelana. Despite acknowledging a delayed campaign and challenges within the alliance, Kumaraswamy expressed satisfaction with the JD(S)’s performance in the by-election considering the circumstances.
