Tue Dec 10 15:09:37 UTC 2024: **Veteran Pacer Mohammad Abbas Recalled to Pakistan Test Squad for South Africa Tour**

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – Veteran pacer Mohammad Abbas has been recalled to the Pakistan Test squad for their upcoming tour of South Africa, marking a remarkable return to the national team after a three-year absence. The 34-year-old’s selection, announced Wednesday by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), surprised many given his age and lengthy time away from international cricket.

However, Abbas boasts an exceptional Test record, having taken 90 wickets at an average of 23.02 – a figure surpassed only by Imran Khan among Pakistani bowlers with at least 50 wickets. Despite criticism in 2022 regarding his training methods and pace from the team physio, Abbas has consistently performed in first-class cricket. He has excelled in county cricket with Hampshire, accumulating 180 wickets at an average of 19.26, and remains a prolific wicket-taker domestically, currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Abbas previously voiced concerns about a lack of communication from the PCB following his omission from the 2022 home series against England. The new selection committee, however, appears to have recognized the oversight, believing his skills will be crucial in the anticipated seam-friendly conditions of South Africa.

With Shaheen Shah Afridi rested, Abbas is expected to spearhead the pace attack, offering valuable experience to younger bowlers like Khurram Shahzad, Naseem Shah, and Mir Hamza. Having previously played two Tests in South Africa, although with limited success, this tour represents a significant opportunity for a triumphant comeback.
