**BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS** – Sherfane Rutherford smashed a magnificent maiden ODI century to power the West Indies to a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first ODI at Warner Park on Sunday. Chasing a challenging 294-6, Rutherford’s explosive 113 off 80 balls, featuring seven fours and eight sixes, proved the difference.
The 26-year-old, named Player of the Match, rescued the West Indies innings after they stumbled to 94-3. He formed a crucial 99-run partnership with captain Shai Hope (86) before being dismissed just short of guiding his team to the highest ever run chase at the ground. Rutherford then combined with Justin Greaves (41 not out) to steer the West Indies to victory.
Hope praised Rutherford’s improved consistency and powerful hitting.
