Tue Dec 10 07:48:49 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Congress to Expose BJP’s Stance on Panchamasali Reservation

**Hubli, Karnataka –** Ahead of a planned protest by the Panchamasali Lingayat community demanding reservation under the 2A category, the Karnataka Congress government is aiming to put the opposition BJP on the defensive. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that he will table in the Assembly an affidavit filed by the previous BJP government in the Supreme Court regarding the reservation issue.

The protest, led by Jayamrutyunjaya Swami, is scheduled for Tuesday near the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. While the seer initially planned a large-scale protest involving 5,000 tractors, authorities have denied permission for this, citing law and order concerns. However, the protest itself will be allowed.

Siddaramaiah stated that he has met with the seer and other community leaders, assuring them of his support for their demands. He highlighted that the BJP government’s affidavit to the Supreme Court committed to maintaining the status quo on the existing reservation policy, which included not withdrawing the four percent reservation granted to the Muslim community. This contrasts with the BJP’s current support for the Panchamasali protest.

Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed the ban on tractors, emphasizing the need to maintain law and order during the Assembly session. The government’s actions seem aimed at exposing inconsistencies in the BJP’s position on the sensitive issue of caste-based reservations.
