**Vellore, December 8, 2024** – G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), presented awards to government school students for their outstanding performances in a Thirukural recitation competition. The event, held Sunday at the VIT campus in Vellore, saw participation from students across eight districts, including Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai. S. Kannappan, Director of the Department of School Education, served as the chief guest. Sankar Viswanathan, vice-president of VIT, was also in attendance. The competition aimed to celebrate and encourage the study of the classic Tamil text, the Thirukural.
