NEW YORK, NY – December 11, 2023 – System of a Down (SOAD) has announced a three-date stadium tour for August and September 2024, featuring support from Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, and Deftones. The tour, produced by Live Nation, will hit MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ – August 28th with Korn), Soldier Field (Chicago, IL – August 31st with Avenged Sevenfold), and Rogers Centre (Toronto, ON – September 3rd with Deftones). PolyPHIA and WISP will open all shows.
Tickets go on sale Friday, December 13th at 12 pm local time via LiveNation.com, following artist and other presales beginning Wednesday, December 11th.
The announcement comes amidst ongoing speculation about a new SOAD album. In recent interviews, drummer John Dolmayan and bassist Shavo Odadjian reiterated the unlikelihood of a new album anytime soon, citing past creative differences and internal tensions. While they confirmed the existence of unreleased material, they emphasized that any future release would have to happen organically and spontaneously, without pre-planning or external pressure.
SOAD frontman Serj Tankian, in interviews promoting his memoir “Down With The System,” pointed to an unequal distribution of creative control and publishing rights within the band as a major hurdle to new music. He also revealed that the band even auditioned a new vocalist after he temporarily stepped away from the group. Despite the challenges, Tankian expressed gratitude for the band’s enduring fanbase and the positive impact their music has had on their lives. He, along with other members, acknowledge that creative differences have been a problem since the late 90’s.
The band’s last studio album was *Mezmerize* and *Hypnotize* in 2005. They have toured intermittently since ending a hiatus in 2011, and released only two songs in 2020, “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz”, to support humanitarian efforts in Armenia.
