**SHIVAMOGGA, December 9, 2024** – The Shivamogga District Congress Committee has accused the BJP of allotting houses under the Ashraya housing scheme to ineligible beneficiaries, primarily BJP and RSS workers. Congress leader R. Prasanna Kumar, in a press conference today, alleged that many houses meant for the urban poor were given to party supporters during the BJP’s tenure. He demanded that the Karnataka government identify and reclaim the houses from ineligible recipients, reallocating them to genuine applicants. The Congress has already submitted this plea to the Housing Minister.
Kumar further criticized the Shivamogga MLA, S.N. Channabasappa, for attempting to allot 652 houses in Govindapura without ensuring basic amenities like electricity, water, and proper access roads. He highlighted that the MLA convened a lottery to select beneficiaries without following proper protocol, failing to inform the district’s minister in charge. The Congress leader stated that they had pressed the Housing Minister, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, to release funds for completing the infrastructure before finalizing the beneficiary selection. He also noted that many previously allotted houses remain unoccupied due to the lack of basic facilities.
