Sun Dec 08 18:59:39 UTC 2024: ## VCK Faces Internal Rift After Deputy General Secretary Criticizes DMK
**Chennai, December 9, 2024** – The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is grappling with an internal crisis following controversial remarks made by its deputy general secretary, Aadhav Arjuna, against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a key ally. Arjuna’s comments, delivered at a book launch event, alleged that the DMK operates like a monarchy and implied that the 2026 Assembly elections would end its rule. He also accused a company linked to the ruling party of controlling the Tamil film industry.
These statements have sparked outrage within the VCK, with senior leaders demanding action against Arjuna. While party president Thol. Thirumavalavan has previously supported Arjuna, the gravity of the situation and the potential damage to the VCK-DMK alliance have left him with little choice but to consider disciplinary action.
VCK general secretary D. Ravikumar confirmed that an internal discussion will take place, leading to a final decision on Arjuna’s future within the party. The party’s floor leader in the Assembly, Sinthanai Selvan, highlighted the party’s bylaws, which dictate the process for removing non-Dalit office-bearers. He stated that only the executive council can remove Arjuna.
The situation is further complicated by concerns that expelling Arjuna could negatively impact the party’s image. One VCK MLA even warned that unless disciplinary action is taken against Arjuna, the alliance with the DMK could collapse.
Thirumavalavan, while addressing the press in Madurai, confirmed an upcoming high-level meeting to decide Arjuna’s fate. He reiterated the VCK’s commitment to the DMK alliance, dismissing recent comments by PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss as politically motivated. He also emphasized his responsibility to protect non-Dalit members within the party, despite its Dalit origins. The outcome of the internal VCK meeting is expected to significantly impact the dynamics of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
