**Hyderabad, India –** Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared December 9th as a momentous day for the state, commemorating the 2009 announcement of its formation as a separate state. Speaking in the state assembly, Reddy credited Sonia Gandhi for fulfilling the aspirations of the Telangana people, who had vigorously championed the statehood movement. He emphasized the significance of identity and culture to a nation’s existence, likening Telangana’s struggle to a mother’s nurturing role in fostering a collective identity.
The government announced plans to erect a statue of “Telangana Talli” (Telangana Mother) in the Secretariat premises. The statue, designed to represent the spirit and culture of Telangana, will depict a woman in traditional attire, holding symbols of the state’s agricultural heritage and embodying the spirit of past struggles. The design incorporates elements reflecting the state’s history, including traditional jewelry, clothing, and agricultural produce. The base of the statue will feature symbolic clenched fists, representing the struggles and sacrifices made during the statehood movement.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka invited both ruling and opposition members to share their views on the proposed statue, highlighting the importance of democratic participation in this significant decision. He also reiterated December 9th’s importance, recalling the announcement made by then Home Minister Chidambaram on that day in 2009. The government emphasized the statue as a representation of the collective emotions and aspirations of Telangana’s 4 crore people.
