**Panipat, Haryana –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana” on December 9th, 2023, in Haryana. This new initiative aims to empower women economically by providing them with employment opportunities as LIC agents.
The scheme, a collaboration between the central government and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), targets rural women aged 18-70 who have completed their 10th standard. Participants will receive monthly stipends ranging from ₹7,000 to ₹21,000, depending on their performance and tenure.
The program includes three years of specialized training and a stipend to enhance financial literacy and insurance sector knowledge. After this training, participants will work as LIC agents. Graduate participants may also have opportunities to work as development officers within LIC. The initial phase of the scheme aims to provide employment to 35,000 women, with plans to expand to 50,000 more in subsequent phases. PM Modi distributed appointment certificates to the first batch of Bima Sakhis. The scheme also includes performance-based incentives and commissions for meeting sales targets. The program aims to provide a stable income and contribute significantly to women’s financial independence.
