**ELURU, Andhra Pradesh, December 8, 2024** – A 17-year-old girl studying at an intermediate college in Eluru town shocked the community after delivering a baby girl in the hostel toilet and subsequently throwing the infant from the terrace, resulting in the baby’s death. Police and Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department officials confirmed the incident, which occurred early Sunday morning.
The infant’s body was discovered in the courtyard of a neighboring house. According to Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Sravan Kumar, the girl, who had been residing at the hostel for two years, delivered the baby, cleaned herself, and then disposed of the newborn. Eight other girls shared the room.
The hostel, it was revealed, was operating without government permission and lacked proper student records, including medical and admission information. Authorities are investigating the hostel management’s failure to notice the girl’s advanced pregnancy. The girl is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
A case has been registered by the Eluru Two Town Police, and investigations into the incident are underway. The infant’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The incident has raised serious concerns about the oversight of hostels and the well-being of underage girls.
