**Madurai, December 8, 2024** – The spirit of Christmas filled Madurai’s churches this weekend as several carol services were held, marking the beginning of the festive season. Two notable events took place on Sunday: a morning service at the CSI Webb Memorial Church and an evening service at the Jubilee Chapel of The American College, led by the YWCA choir.
The CSI Webb Memorial Church choir presented a diverse program, including classic carols like “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night,” along with Handel’s Messiah medley and Tamil songs. The performance featured Honey Beautlyn and two young boys, Haniel and Daniel, on the keyboard, and Carol on the violin, under the direction of Samuel Thomas. Rev. J. John Jeya Kamaraj, Chaplain of The American College, delivered a Christmas message emphasizing the significance of Jesus’ birth and warning against superficial interpretations of salvation.
The YWCA’s evening service at The American College showcased the senior and children’s choirs. Their performance included carols such as “Once in Royal David’s City” and “Love Came Down at Christmas,” with the lyrics’ context thoughtfully explained before each song. Stanley Joshua played the piano, and Daniel Dawson directed the choir. Beulah Jeyashree, Principal of Lady Doak College, delivered a message focusing on the themes of joy and wonder, highlighting the selfless acts of biblical figures Mary, Elizabeth, and Hannah. Both services were well-attended and celebrated the true meaning of Christmas with traditional hymns and inspiring messages.
