**Mumbai, India – December 9, 2024** – Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia has achieved a historic milestone, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director (Motion Picture) for her critically acclaimed film, *All We Imagine As Light*. This marks the first time an Indian woman has received this prestigious nomination.
Kapadia’s film, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, is competing against a strong field of international directors including Jacques Audiard, Sean Baker, Edward Berger, Brady Corbet, and Coralie Fargeat. *All We Imagine As Light* has garnered significant attention since its premiere at Cannes, traveling the global film festival circuit before its opening presentation at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, where it was attended by numerous Bollywood luminaries.
Expressing her delight at the nomination, Kapadia stated, “I’m happy that the film fraternity could watch my film…For anybody who makes films, they know it very well that without friends and a great crew, it’s impossible to make a film.”
Director Kiran Rao had previously predicted that *All We Imagine As Light* possessed the potential for Oscar success. While Kapadia remains modest about the prospect, she expressed hope for a successful US release on November 15th.
The Golden Globe Awards will stream live in India on Lionsgate Play on January 6th at 6:30 AM IST. The nomination is a significant achievement for Kapadia and Indian cinema, bringing international recognition to her exceptional talent.
