Mon Dec 09 14:57:07 UTC 2024: ## Congress Leader Criticizes BJP’s Protests Over Bangladesh Atrocities
**Mangaluru, Karnataka, December 9, 2024** – Former Karnataka Minister B. Ramanath Rai of the Indian National Congress criticized the BJP for staging street protests over alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. Rai argued that instead of domestic demonstrations, the BJP, the ruling party at the Centre, should exert international pressure on the Bangladeshi government to protect minority communities.
Rai stated that while atrocities against minorities are condemnable, the BJP’s protests in Mangaluru and elsewhere risk escalating communal tensions in already vulnerable areas. He advocated for addressing the issue through international forums rather than disrupting daily life with street protests. He also criticized the Mangaluru City Police for selectively granting permission for protests, citing complaints from the CPI(M) regarding unequal treatment. While acknowledging the inappropriateness of obstructing traffic with food festivals, Rai indicated that the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister and other senior ministers. The press conference was attended by other Congress leaders including M. Shashidhar Hegde and Naveen R. D’Souza.
