Sun Dec 08 12:06:55 UTC 2024: ## New Train Route Urged to Connect Chennai and Madurai
**TIRUCHI, December 8, 2024** – The Pattukottai Rail Users Association has called on the Southern Railway administration to establish a new train route connecting Chennai and Madurai via Adirampattinam, Pattukottai, Peravurani, Aranthangi, and Karaikudi. Currently, no direct rail link exists between these cities.
Association president V. Viveganantham highlighted the significant economic and cultural importance of Madurai, Tamil Nadu’s second-largest city, and the substantial number of people travelling between Madurai and towns along the proposed route for business and other purposes.
The association’s memorandum to the Southern Railway General Manager proposes several initiatives: a special train service for the upcoming Christmas, New Year, and Pongal festivals, a permanent “Jallikattu Express” along the suggested route, and a daily overnight “Kamban” Express between Chennai Egmore and Karaikudi. Further requests include upgrading existing Mayiladuthurai-Karaikudi services and making the Tambaram-Sengottai express a daily service. These improvements, the association argues, would greatly benefit the region’s residents.
