Sun Dec 08 13:48:14 UTC 2024: ## Jaishankar Highlights India’s Diplomatic Efforts Amidst Regional Tensions

**Manama, Bahrain –** External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on Sunday that India is actively involved in diplomatic efforts to address the volatile relationship between Israel and Iran, a key concern for New Delhi. Speaking at the Manama Dialogue in Bahrain, Jaishankar linked this concern to the broader security situation in the Red Sea, impacted by Houthi militant attacks on commercial ships.

Jaishankar emphasized India’s significant economic interests in West Asia, noting India’s burgeoning economy and trade, which are expected to double this decade. He highlighted the need for regional cooperation to mitigate security challenges and stabilize the region, particularly referencing the disruption to trade routes and increased costs due to the volatile situation in the Red Sea.

India’s contribution to regional security was underscored by Jaishankar’s mention of India’s naval presence in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. He detailed India’s involvement in Operation Prosperity Guardian, a US-led initiative, citing the response to 24 incidents, the escorting of 250 ships, and the rescue of 120 crew members. Furthermore, Jaishankar announced plans to increase bilateral naval exercises with partners in the Gulf and Mediterranean regions, including Israel, Greece, and Egypt. The Minister’s visit to Bahrain was part of a two-day trip.
