Sat Dec 07 17:40:05 UTC 2024: ## INDIA Alliance Welcomes Mamata Banerjee’s Offer to Take on Greater Responsibility

**New Delhi:** Following West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s indication of willingness to lead the INDIA opposition alliance, leaders from constituent parties have expressed their support for her taking on a more significant role.

NCP MP Supriya Sule stated that Banerjee is an “integral part” of the alliance and that they would welcome her increased responsibility. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi lauded Banerjee’s success in keeping the BJP out of power in West Bengal and highlighted her experience and fighting spirit.

While no formal decision on leadership has been made, TMC MP Kirti Azad praised Banerjee’s leadership style, describing her as a “household name” known for her articulate views and ability to unite diverse groups. Another TMC MP, Kalyan Banerjee, had previously suggested the need for a strong leader within the INDIA bloc to counter the BJP’s strength, following recent electoral setbacks for the Congress party.

The comments follow a period of speculation regarding the future leadership of the INDIA alliance after recent state election results. While acknowledging the need for a stronger opposition coalition, the final decision on leadership will be made at a future INDIA bloc meeting.
