Sun Dec 08 07:36:53 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Businessman Gunned Down in Apparent Case of Mistaken Identity

**New Delhi, India** – A 57-year-old businessman, Sunil Jain, was shot dead in Delhi’s Shahdara district on Saturday morning, in what police believe may be a case of mistaken identity. Jain, returning home on a scooter after a morning walk with a friend, was approached by two men on a motorcycle.

According to Jain’s friend, Sumit, the attackers initially feigned concern, claiming Jain’s phone had fallen. They then asked if anyone in the group was named “Virat.” When Sumit replied negatively, one attacker reportedly shouted, “This is the one!” before firing eight shots at Jain, who died at the scene.

Police are now investigating the possibility that the killing was a case of mistaken identity, focusing their search on an individual named Virat. The investigation is reportedly linked to a recent double homicide, where a minor apprehended last month had a father named Virat. However, police have yet to confirm any connection.

The attackers used both 9mm and 7.61mm pistols, and are currently at large. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Prashant Gautam, stated that authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and pursuing all investigative leads. Jain, a Krishna Nagar resident and owner of a utensils business, reportedly had no known enemies, according to his family.
