**New Delhi** – A security breach in the Rajya Sabha has led to calls for increased security measures after a wad of cash was discovered on the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved approximately 100 ₹500 notes found on seat number 222, Singhvi’s designated seat.
Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar confirmed the discovery, made by an anti-sabotage team, and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the authenticity of the currency and the source. Singhvi, who was in the chamber for only three minutes on Friday, expressed surprise and described the incident as a serious security lapse. He suggested several enhanced security measures, including lockable glass enclosures or barbed wire fencing around the seats to prevent unauthorized access.
Singhvi, who claims to carry only a single ₹500 note while in Parliament, vehemently denied any involvement and attributed the incident to a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image. Congress party sources have even suggested the incident is a politically motivated ploy to distract from the ongoing Adani issue.
The incident has raised concerns about security protocols in the upper house of Parliament and prompted calls for a thorough investigation to determine who placed the money on Singhvi’s seat and with what intent. The investigation will also examine whether additional security measures are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
