Fri Dec 06 19:50:46 UTC 2024: ## Muhammad Tops UK Baby Name Charts for 2023

**London, UK** – For the first time, Muhammad has claimed the top spot as the most popular baby boy’s name in England and Wales, according to new data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Over 4,600 babies were registered with the name in 2023, surpassing Noah, which held the top position in previous years.

The ONS has tracked the popularity of Muhammad for several years, noting its consistent presence in the top 10 since 2016. Variations of the name, Mohammed and Mohammad, also featured in the top 100. This year’s top ten boy’s names also include Noah, Oliver, George, Leo, Arthur, Luca, Theodore, Oscar, and Henry.

The top three girls’ names – Olivia, Amelia, and Isla – remained unchanged from the previous two years. Rounding out the top ten for girls are Lily, Freya, Ava, Ivy, Florence, Willow, and Isabella. New entries to the top 100 include Hazel, Lilah, Autumn, Nevaeh, and Raya for girls, and Jax, Enzo, and Bodhi for boys.

The ONS report highlights the influence of seasonality and pop culture on baby name choices. December saw a rise in names like Holly, Robyn, and Joseph, while Summer and Autumn were popular during their respective seasons. Celebrity influence was also evident, with names like Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, and those from the Kardashian-Jenner family appearing in the data.

The report also noted a significantly larger pool of unique names for girls (over 35,000) compared to boys (29,560), contributing to higher name counts for boys in the top rankings. Traditional names like Victoria, Harry, William, Charlotte, Elizabeth, and Charles experienced a decline in popularity.
