**Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu – December 6, 2024** – A 45-year-old man from Malappuram, Kerala, has been arrested by Thoothukudi cyber wing police for allegedly defrauding a victim of ₹52.11 lakh through a WhatsApp-based share market scam.
The victim, a resident of KTC Nagar, Thoothukudi, received a WhatsApp message promising high profits from share market investments. After initially investing ₹4.4 lakh and seeing a return, the victim was encouraged to invest further through a fraudulent website, http://www.irqql.com, and application called FHT. The victim subsequently invested ₹52.11 lakh but received no profit, leading to a complaint filed on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
Investigations led to the arrest of A. Ajmal, who was brought to Thoothukudi and remanded to judicial custody. Thoothukudi SP Albert John warned the public to be wary of unsolicited investment opportunities, particularly those promoted via WhatsApp and Telegram. The investigation is ongoing.
