Fri Dec 06 18:22:53 UTC 2024: **Mysuru Ambedkar Bhavan Delay Sparks Protest**
MYSURU, December 6, 2024 – Hundreds of Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS) activists protested in Mysuru on Friday, delaying a ceremony marking B.R. Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvana Diwas, to denounce the prolonged delay in completing the city’s Ambedkar Bhavan.
The activists confronted Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, highlighting the project’s stalled progress despite the allocation of additional funds two years ago with a promised two-month completion timeline. The foundation stone was laid in 2012.
The protesters, who chanted slogans against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and District in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, demanded a written assurance for the project’s timely completion. They alleged that vested interests were responsible for the delays and cost overruns.
The Deputy Commissioner, while acknowledging the need for an additional ₹27 crore due to proposed design modifications, assured the activists that a detailed project report has been submitted and tenders will be invited shortly. The protest temporarily disrupted the official tribute ceremony.
