**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Indian government has announced a significant investment in education infrastructure with the approval of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs). The decision, made by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will see a total investment of approximately Rs 8,231.9 crore over the next eight years.
The establishment of the 85 new KVs, along with the expansion of one existing KV, will require an estimated Rs 5,872.08 crore, encompassing both capital and operational expenditure. This is expected to benefit approximately 82,560 students. Furthermore, the creation of these schools is projected to generate over 5,388 direct permanent employment opportunities, in addition to numerous indirect jobs in construction and related sectors.
The 28 new NVs will receive an investment of Rs 2,359.82 crore over five years. These schools will be located in districts currently lacking such facilities.
Currently, there are 1,256 functional KVs (including three abroad), educating approximately 13.56 lakh students. The government cites consistently high performance in board examinations and growing demand for admission as justification for the expansion. The new KVs will adhere to the National Education Policy 2020, with nearly all designated as PM Shri schools, serving as model institutions. The initiative aims to provide uniform educational standards across the country, particularly for the children of transferable government employees and those in remote areas.
