Sat Dec 07 00:30:04 UTC 2024: ## Thrissur East Takes Lead in School Kalotsavam
**Kunnamkulam, Dec 6, 2024:** Thrissur East sub-district surged ahead on the second day of the district school Kalotsavam, overtaking Chavakkad by a single point to secure first place with 397 points. Chavakkad followed closely with 396 points, and Valapatt secured third place with 384 points. In the inter-school competition, Pavaratty Mullassery St. Joseph’s HSS maintained its lead with 136 points, followed by Kodungallur Matilakam St. Joseph’s (117 points) and Chenthapinnni HSS (111 points).
The Kalotsavam also showcased the resourcefulness of students. Students from Varandarappilly CJM HSS, who learned the Pari Chamuttu (a traditional art form) via YouTube tutorials due to financial constraints in hiring a teacher, achieved an A grade in the competition. Their music teacher, Gayathri Libin, provided full support.
Meanwhile, V.D. Avanthika’s victory in the folk dance competition at the district level serves as a powerful counterpoint to the online criticism she faced after winning at the sub-district level. Despite facing organized online bullying questioning her win, she secured first place again, demonstrating her talent. Avanthika, an eighth-grader at Karamukk SNGHS, has been learning various dance forms since the third grade.
Finally, the Walur Nair Samajam School’s victory in the Irula dance competition was met with widespread acclaim. The school brought in experts Murukan and Murukesh from Attappadi to train students in this traditional tribal dance form, resulting in a decisive win. The team impressively presented the dance in its authentic style, utilizing traditional attire and instruments.
