Sat Dec 07 00:50:58 UTC 2024: ## Cash Found at Congress MP’s Rajya Sabha Seat Sparks Controversy

**New Delhi, December 7, 2024** – A bundle of cash was discovered at the Rajya Sabha seat of Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi, triggering a political storm in Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the finding during Friday’s session, stating that the cash was found at seat number 222 during a routine security check after the adjournment of the house on Thursday.

Dhankhar stated that an investigation has been launched into the incident. Singhvi, while denying any knowledge of the cash, stated he had only carried ₹500 when he attended the session. He claimed to have left the chamber shortly after its adjournment and went to the canteen before leaving the premises.

The incident sparked a heated debate, with Congress leaders suggesting the discovery was a deliberate attempt by the government to distract from crucial discussions on farmer issues and the Adani-Modi controversy. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh alleged a government conspiracy, claiming the value of the cash was only ₹50,000 and questioning the significance of finding such an amount. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge requested the Chairman to refrain from naming the MP until the investigation concluded. However, the BJP countered, demanding that the MP’s name be revealed once the source of the money is established.

The Congress party has offered to cooperate with any agency investigating the matter, including the possibility of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation. The incident continues to generate significant political tension within the Parliament.
