Thu Dec 05 15:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Adivasi Village in Andhra Pradesh Stages Horseback Protest for Road
**Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh:** Eighty residents of Kondashikhara, a remote Adivasi village in Anakapalle district, staged a unique protest on December 5th, 2024, riding horses to demand basic infrastructure, particularly a road connecting their village. The village, home to 15 families, currently lacks access to roads, leading to significant challenges in accessing essential services and education. Villagers are forced to walk or ride horses to reach school and the nearest town. The lack of road access is further compounded by the absence of official PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) certificates for the villagers, hindering their access to government aid.
The protesters, including representatives from the Girijana Sangham and CPI(M), appealed to the District Collector to grant necessary forest permissions and construct a road. They also requested a visit from the Collector to personally assess their plight and address their concerns. The protest highlighted the severe lack of basic amenities faced by this isolated Adivasi community.
