Patil Yatnal for making what it termed “derogatory statements” about 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara. The Mahasabha’s statement questioned Mr. Yatnal’s adherence to Lingayat values and practices, expressing concern over his repeated controversial remarks. The controversy stems from comments Mr. Yatnal made at a rally concerning a waqf land issue, where he allegedly compared farmers’ plight to that of Basavanna. The Mahasabha is demanding a public apology and has called for an end to what it perceives as disrespectful behavior towards a revered figure in the community.
