Wed Dec 04 17:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Five-Star QB Sagapolutele Flips Commitment to Oregon Ducks

**Eugene, OR** – In a stunning turn of events, five-star quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has flipped his commitment from the California Golden Bears to the Oregon Ducks. The highly touted prospect, ranked No. 19 nationally by On3, made the announcement Wednesday during a signing day ceremony at his high school in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

Sagapolutele, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound lefty, had been committed to Cal since July. However, an official visit to Oregon in October for their game against Illinois swayed his decision. He cited the quarterback meetings with Oregon’s coaches Will Stein and Matt Lombardi, and the team’s overall energy as key factors in his choice. “Seeing everyone engaged, everyone fired up… that was a great moment for me to experience,” Sagapolutele said.

The Hawaii native had a phenomenal senior season, leading his James Campbell Sabers to a 9-2 record and breaking Dillon Gabriel’s state record for all-time passing yards. His impressive performance earned him the 2024 Marcus Mariota Award, recognizing Hawaii’s top player. He threw for 3,757 yards and 37 touchdowns, completing 268 of 418 passes.

Sagapolutele becomes the second five-star quarterback to commit to Oregon in the 2025 class, joining Akili Smith Jr. He will follow in the footsteps of other standout Hawaiian quarterbacks who played for the Ducks, including Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota and current starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel. This commitment is a significant boost for Oregon, who are currently ranked No. 7 nationally in the 2025 recruiting class. The Ducks are actively pursuing other top recruits and aim to further solidify their position.
