**Mumbai, [Date]:** After eleven days of speculation, Devendra Fadnavis has been chosen as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The BJP leader was elected leader of the legislative party on Wednesday, marking his third term in the top post.
Fadnavis, a prominent figure in Maharashtra BJP, previously served as Deputy Chief Minister in the Eknath Shinde-led government. His political career began in 1999 when he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Nagpur West. He subsequently won re-election from Nagpur South-West in 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019, securing his sixth consecutive term in the recent elections. His 2019 victory saw him defeat Congress candidate Dr. Ashish Deshmukh by a significant margin. This time, he defeated Congress’s Prof. Prfulla Vinod Gudhade (Patil).
His political lineage includes a father, Gangadharrao Fadnavis, who was imprisoned during the Emergency for participating in an anti-government rally. His mother, Sarita Fadnavis, was a director of the Vidarbha Housing Credit Society. Fadnavis is married to Amruta Fadnavis, a banker and singer, and they have a 15-year-old daughter, Divija.
