**NEW DELHI** – A cold wave has gripped northern India, with temperatures plummeting significantly in the Himalayan region. While plains states like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are experiencing a mild chill, mountainous areas are facing near-freezing conditions.

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -1.3 degrees Celsius, while the popular skiing destination Gulmarg shivered at -2.6 degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall has been reported in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, disrupting vehicular traffic in affected areas. The snowfall, however, has been less than anticipated in some areas, leading to fewer tourists than usual at some popular hill stations. Further weather updates are expected regarding rainfall in the plains and snowfall in the hills of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, with the latter expecting deteriorating weather conditions in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for Jharkhand.
