Tue Dec 03 18:30:51 UTC 2024: ## Prosecutors Raid Government Offices in Probe of Industrial Complex Designation
**Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province –** Prosecutors launched a raid on the Gyeongnam Provincial Government and Changwon City Hall on Tuesday, investigating allegations of political influence in the designation of the second Changwon National Industrial Complex. The Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office dispatched approximately 10 investigators to seize documents and electronic data related to the designation process. The investigation centers on allegations of improper influence by Myung Tae-kyun, a lawmaker whose involvement in securing the designation is under scrutiny.
The raid targeted key offices within both government bodies, focusing on departments involved in industrial policy and urban development. Investigators employed forensic techniques to recover data from computers, reportedly securing information pertaining to the industrial complex designation. Myung Tae-kyun has previously acknowledged involvement in the process, claiming he played a role in advocating for the complex’s designation.
The prosecution also summoned three Changwon city officials for questioning. The investigation follows claims by the Democratic Party of numerous land transactions preceding the complex’s designation. Both South Gyeongsang Province and Changwon City have denied any wrongdoing. Myung Tae-kyun has maintained his actions were limited to communications with officials in his capacity as a local lawmaker. The designation of the second Changwon National Industrial Complex was announced in March 2022 as part of a broader government initiative.
