**New Delhi, December 4, 2024** – The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved five key capital acquisition proposals totaling ₹21,772 crore on Tuesday. These acquisitions aim to bolster India’s coastal security and enhance the capabilities of its existing military assets.
The approved proposals include:
* **31 new Water Jet Fast Attack Crafts:** Designed for low-intensity maritime operations, surveillance, patrol, search and rescue, and anti-piracy missions, particularly around India’s island territories.
* **120 Fast Interceptor Crafts:** Capable of escorting high-value units like aircraft carriers and submarines, strengthening coastal defence.
* **Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS) for Su-30 MKI Aircraft:** This system, comprising jammer pods and a next-generation radar warning receiver, will enhance the aircraft’s survivability against enemy radar and weapon systems.
* **Six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) for the Coast Guard:** These will improve coastal security and surveillance capabilities.
* **Overhaul of T-72 & T-90 tanks, BMPs, and Sukhoi fighter aircraft engines:** This will extend the service life of these vital assets.
The Ministry of Defence stated that these acquisitions represent a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities and safeguarding its maritime interests.
