Wed Dec 04 05:28:49 UTC 2024: ## France to Supply India with Advanced Pumpjet Propulsion Technology for Submarines

**JAFFNA, SRI LANKA** – France will provide India with cutting-edge pumpjet propulsion technology for its next-generation submarine programs, significantly enhancing the Indian Navy’s capabilities. This technology will be integrated into Project 75I (six diesel-electric attack submarines) and future nuclear submarine projects.

The pumpjet system, already in use on France’s Barracuda-class submarines, offers a significant advantage over traditional propeller systems by dramatically reducing noise levels. This makes Indian submarines far more stealthy and difficult to detect, especially crucial in the strategically important Indo-Pacific region. The quieter operation also improves maneuverability and underwater combat effectiveness.

The agreement highlights the growing defense cooperation between France and India. Both nations have been engaging in joint military exercises across air, sea, and land domains. The transfer of this advanced technology solidifies India’s position as a major naval power in the region. The Indian Navy’s ambitious submarine expansion plans, including Project 75I and Project 77 (nuclear submarines), are key components of its modernization and strategic goals.
