**Haldwani, Uttarakhand:** Rajiv Mehta, a former secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association and current secretary general of the Fencing Association of India, has created history by becoming the first Indian to be elected as the Secretary General of the Asian Fencing Confederation (AFC). The election took place on December 1st in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Mehta, representing India, secured the position amidst strong competition from representatives of approximately 46 countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, UAE, and Pakistan. He received unanimous support from all member nations.
This achievement has been met with widespread celebration in Uttarakhand, with the Uttarakhand Olympic Association and local sports enthusiasts expressing their pride. Mehta’s previous accolades include a four-year term as president of the South Asian Fencing Federation (SAAFF), beginning in 2018.
